Abstract

Purpose: This study aimed to predict the performance of professional football players based on the neural network model.

Methodology: The background of the research was studied, and the available indicators in evaluating the performance of professional football players were collected. In the qualitative phase, with a semi-structured interview, the necessary codes were studied in this field. In the quantitative phase, based on the previous findings, a research questionnaire was created and after data collection and confirmatory factor analysis, a model was created to evaluate the performance of professional football players, and then, using neural networks, a model was created to predict the performance of professional football players.

Findings: In quantitative phase, information related to 7 factors, and 110 indicators were collected in the SPSS software and finally divided and summarized into three physical, technical and psychological factors. After confirmatory factor analysis, the performance evaluation model was drawn in the AMOS software. Then, the performance of 42 goalkeepers was evaluated in terms of seven factors and 110 indicators by the statistical community of the research in the qualitative phase, and after scoring the indicators, each player was given a final score (Q1-Q4). Using the data and neural networks, the final research model was created in the MATLAB software, and its validity was confirmed.

Originality: One of the main problems in the field of sport management is prediction of the performance of professional players. This study aims to prediction of the performance of professional football players based on the Neural Network Model.
